Last night Thursday, Jan. 24, the Buhler wrestling team took on the Augusta Orioles. Despite fight from the Crusaders, the Orioles came out on top winning the duel, 42-33.
The night started off with 7 JV exhibition matches and then the seniors were recognized for Senior Night. After the varsity matches ended, there were six more JV exhibition matches.
Before the duel began Coach Mike Zeyen said, “We’re going in as the underdog.”
Zeyen said the duel might depend on pins as pins reward more points. Regular decisions result in 3 points, a major decision results in 4 points, tech falls reward 4 points and a pin will give the team 6 points.
The Crusaders had seen Augusta in competition earlier this year at a tournament that Augusta held. The Augusta team had all of their weight classes filled which gave them points without actual wrestling in some cases.
