“Approximately 321,500 people are sexually assaulted in the United States every year,” according to research shared by seniors Alexus Plante and Mackenzie Meier on their Passion Project website. The girls hope to raise awareness about this startling fact and raise funds to help a local organization that is helping people affected by sexual abuse and domestic violence.

The are hosting an event called “5k for 321.5K”, an untimed 5K run/walk  on Dec. 1 in Wheatland Park in Buhler.  All money earned from the event will go to support the work of BrighHouse, a non-profit organization located in Hutchinson, KS.

Registration is now open and anyone who signs up by Nov. 12 will be guaranteed an event t-shirt delivered before race day. People who register after Nov. 12 will get a shirt subject to availablity with no guarantee about size.

Forms and payment should be mailed to BrightHouse at 335 N. Washington , Ste. 240, Hutchinson, KS. 67501. BHS students and staff can give their form and money to either Plante or Meier.

Check-in on the day of the event will begin at 7:30 a.m. At 8:30, Plante and Meier will share more about their project and a speaker from BrightHouse will talk about their organization. The race itself will start at 9.  Drinks and snacks will be provided at the conclusion of the event.
